A whole world to discover in a single city

A peaceful park in five minutes, an international sports game in 10 minutes and masterpieces by Van Gogh and Monet in 15 minutes. That’s where you can get to from Lincoln House Hotel in Cardiff – and that’s all on foot!

The Lincoln House Hotel is situated halfway along Cathedral Road, and is the closest bed and breakfast to Sophia Gardens and the Swalec Stadium – now an Ashes test ground. Cardiff is blessed with a green belt of well-kept parks that cut through the heart of the city. You can walk or cycle right out of the capital to the north without having put a foot (or a wheel) on a road. It is possible to reach Cardiff Bay in the South in similar fashion, along dedicated cycle and pedestrian paths beside the River Taff, which played such a huge role in the development and prosperity of Cardiff as an internationally-important port.

If you’d rather not walk to the Bay, why not take a taxi – right along the river? Water taxis run regularly from Bute Park, just a short walk from the hotel, to both Cardiff Bay and the Barrage, where there are stunning views across the city and the Bristol Channel.

A must for any Rugby, Football or Cricket fan

Millennium Stadium Just as world famous these days, the 74,500-seat Millennium Stadium has played host to some of the most thrilling games in sport in that short time, including the FA Cup (watched by a world audience of two billion) and a Rugby World Cup final. It is almost on the doorstep of Lincoln House Hotel and easily reachable on foot. The Rugby Hall of fame and WRU Museum are also housed there.

Along with the stadium, the city has several concert venues, and some of the biggest names in music – of all kinds – can be found at St David’s Hall or the CIA. There is a host of smaller venues, too, that cater for Cardiff’s lively music scene.

For those of you not of a sporting disposition, Cardiff can boast one of the most compact and complete shopping centres in the UK, and has earned the nickname of ‘City of Arcades’ owing to the high number of beautifully-maintained arcades found in the centre. They will soon be joined by St David’s 2, a multi-billion pound shopping development scheduled to open in 2010.

At the southern end of the city centre, some 20 minutes’ walk from Lincoln House Hotel, the Cafe Quarter provides a top-quality variety of restaurants and cafes with a huge range of international cuisine for all tastes and styles. Cardiff Castle
On the other side of Bute Park lies Cardiff Castle, a fairytale castle in the woods built on the site of a 13th Century keep. A breathtaking marvel of imagination and decoration, its history spans some 2,000 years and includes Roman remains, a Norman keep and lavish interiors housed in Neo Gothic towers styled by the Second Marquis of Bute.

Beyond that, in Cathays Park, the National Museum and Gallery is home to a fine collection of art, natural history and science. Its exemplary gallery features work from some of the best-loved painters in the world, including Monet, Constable, Van Gogh, Renoir, Manet and Turner.

It is around here that you’ll also find Cardiff University, UWIC and the University of Glamorgan’s breathtaking new school of art and design – can be easily reached on foot from Lincoln House Hotel, perfect for visiting parents and lecturers.

The Capital City with something for everyone

Wales Millennium Centre - Cardiff Bay Cardiff Bay is one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in Wales. In among its mix of modern architecture and buildings that recall the days when it was the world’s busiest port (with many locations there having featured in Dr Who and Torchwood), Mermaid Quay is home to plenty of restaurants, pubs, cafes and wine bars. Family attractions include boat trips across the entirely-enclosed Bay, and Techniquest, one of the UK's leading science discovery centres, providing great fun for the whole family with 160 interactive exhibits on offer.

The Lincoln House Hotel makes a perfect base for you to explore the rest of Wales. Swift roads out of the capital ensure that the Vale of Glamorgan, the Valleys, Swansea and the Gower Peninsula, The Brecon Beacons and Monmouthshire are usually no more than an hour away by car. We can provide a wide range of leaflets on attractions that can be found in this historic and picturesque area.
